| John Threat is a writer/director who brings stories to life across multiple platforms with his production company MediaThreat. John has directed work in a broad range of formats: Television (Dead Prez: Bigger Than Hip Hop), Cell Phones Serials (Cellpop), Major Record Label music videos (N.O.R.E.), Commercials and Virals (Bud Light) and the Internet with his pioneering work in Mashups (Betty Boop). Most recently he finished cinematography and VFX director for Melvin Van Peebles feature film Doofus which premiered at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. He is currently directing a new genre of entertainment for 2009 with two new series: Hackateer and Kicker. John started his writing career at Comedy Central, but he also flexed his creative muscle with web content as one of the pioneers of the blog movement with the explosive site called Urban Expose' which skewered the biggest names in the urban entertainment industry. The dynamic self-coded site was irresistible to the media intelligentsia with its breaking stories, acerbic writing and rapier wit. It even led Michael Hirschorn, Kurt Andersen, and Omar Wasow to all proclaim it the urban Spy magazine. John is also a renowned computer hacker who was part of two infamous groups: The international 8lgm and the legendary Masters of Deception whose exploits spawned a book - and a media firestorm. He has consulted directly for Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes, worked with detective companies on international security assignments, and pioneered information warfare but he now limits hacking to forming really good Google searches. John resides in Brooklyn, New York where he enjoys inner-city off-roading in his linux-powered Jeep. He holds a BS/BA in Physics and Film from Brooklyn College. |
